Lab Report Format
Problem- What is it that we are trying to
find out. State it in question form.
Materials- What materials are we using
Observations- about the problem....
What do we see, feel, smell, etc..
Compare to something you know
What do you read on the ingredients?
What do you know (Prior knowledge)?
Hypothesis- An educated guess about the
answer to the problem...
We phrase the hypothesis by...
"I hypothesize that...."
Test the hypothesis- Experiment
List the procedure (steps taken)
This is not in paragraph form it
is a list!
Record the results of the procedure on a
data table. Be sure to use the
units of measure, for example if
we are measuring length be sure to
write cm for centimeters.
Analyze the data- We create a graph
Use a line graph to show change
Use a bar graph to compare amounts
Draw a conclusion- This tells us what
happened and if your hypothesis was
correct or not. Nobody ever gets
point off if their hypothesis was
wrong! It is always written in
the If/then format as follows...
