How can you prove that the Earth is Changing?
7th Grade Science Project
Groups 1-4 students
Choose one of the following topics. All work is expected to be in of very high quality, neat and an example of your best work. You will be graded on the following categories- Format (follow assignment), Scientific Fact (Contains facts), Presentation (neat, pretty), Spelling & Grammar, Creativity, Effort and knowledge.

Write a newspaper article story about them on the day they announced their discovery (published their findings or their book). Include background information about the scientist. Paper should include at least 3 pictures and should list 5 different sources of information in an attached bibliography.
2. Research a specific major earthquake anywhere in history write a newspaper report about it- include pictures and at least 7 specific facts about how the land changed as a result of this activity. Include a Blog like diary of that experience as if you were there. Be sure to include location, type of seismic activity, destruction, deaths, etc. Publish both the article and diary on a creative poster.
3. Create a timeline of the development of seismology use written explanations, pictures and creativity- Identify 6 specific seismic events in history and include at least 2 paragraphs about each. Place the paragraphs in the appropriate place on the timeline. Be sure to attach the timeline together in chronological order. Do not publish in book form!
4. Demonstrate your understanding of plate movement with a graphic timeline changing Pangaea to modern looking earth and then into the future in 1 million years, 10 million years and 100 million years. Use specific written information to directly describe each of the changes and explain why you believe that the earth will change in this way. Be sure to identify specific changes.
5. Write 4 poems and/or songs about the various geologic topics –The topics should be: minerals, fossils, rock cycle and plate tectonics. Make sure that each song or poem contains at least 15 specific and relevant facts about the topic, so the song can teach someone this topic with out any prior knowledge. A qualifying poem or song will be about 25 lines or more each and must deal directly with the topic and contain all actual information.
6. Write a fictional paper that would discuss what the earth would be like if we didn’t have plate tectonics. Be sure to cite specific opinions and explain why this would happen. The paper should be at least 2 pages. Along with the paper, attach . 20 frames of a drawn cartoon that explains Plate Tectonics. The cartoon should be neat and include the use of color. The writing must be either hand written or typed with a Times Roman font, double spaced and size 12 or less.
